Tortuguero Lodge is a charming lodge located in Barra de Pacuare, the most virgin sector of the Tortuguero canals, in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. It is located directly in front of the Madre de Di-os Lagoon, an extensive and unspoiled natural canal, surrounded by tropical rainforest, and separated from the sea by only a narrow peninsula of virgin and intact tropical jungle, the famous Pacuare Reserve. The tranquility of the water and the zone brings much wildlife to near the lodge. Giving our customers a special bond with the nature in a new open way. The barrio del Pacuare is one of the most important places for the arrival of leatherback, green and hawksbill turtles. Once a year, these incredible species comes to their birthplace to lay their eggs.

Surrounded by three Sea Turtle conservation projects, a 2400 hectares of Biological Reserve and a labyrinth of rivers and swamps, Tortuguero Lodge offers different packages with boat transport, guided excursion, contact with local people and labor of the wildlife protection organizations, and a special and unique tropical architecture. Our open-air dining pavilion and bungalows will let you watch the local wildlife and listen to the sounds only found in a tropical paradise.

People can also enjoy kayaking along the lagoon border, or go for some fishing with the locals. The lodge has currently two or three days’ packages that optionally include transportation from San Jose or you can also arrive in your vehicle to our private dock, from where you will be transferred by boat to Tortuguero Lodge You will enjoy a boat tour, a visit to the Pacuare beach and small village, and a guided visit to the Sea Turtle conservation projects. Other optional activities such as bird watching, fishing and guided hikes can be booked upon prior request or directly at the lodge.

The bungalows are equipped with two double beds convertible in four single beds or a king bed and a single sofa/bed convertible in 4 single beds for groups. The lodge offers Bungalows, which are spacious wooden units that come with two double beds, a comfortable bathroom, porch, and either lagoon or garden view decks. The units do not offer air conditioning, but the structure itself provides with a constant natural ocean and jungle breeze. All the Bungalows are mounted on a 30 sq Mt2 raised platform 2 feet from the floor with a full strong roof protecting from the weather and a 180-degree view in the main room with a full-screen net window for an optimum natural ventilation. Decorated with full curtains on room windows for a ventilation control and privacy.
